TROVAFLOXACIN(PO)/ALATROFLOXACIN(IV)

Antibacterial activity

Enteric gram-negative bacilli.
Gram-positive coverage.
Anaerobic coverage 

Pregnancy Risk Factor

Class C

Contraindication/Precaution

Hypersensitivity to trovafloxacin, other quinolones or any component
Do not use if pregnancy or lactating
Use caution if increased ICP
Use caution if CNS/seizure/psychosis disorder
Use caution if renal/hepatic dysfunction (must monitor hepatic enzymes)
Not recommended in children <18 years of age.

Mechanism of Action

Prevents supercoiling of nucleic acids of bacteria.

Pharmacodynamics

Metabolism: liver.
Half-life: 9-12 hours, changes with renal function
Elimination: excreted in urine and in feces

Dosage

Children:  

not approved under 18 years old

Adults:

200-300 mg PO/IV qd (IV: infuse dose over 60 min)
must use lower dose if hepatic dysfunction
