Antibacterial activity

Used for the local treatment of vulvovaginal candidiasis

Class C

Contraindication/Precaution

Hypersensitivity to butoconazole , or any component
Only for topical use (not ophthalmic)
Use caution if nursing mother
In pregnancy, use only during second or third trimesters

Mechanism of Action

Binds to phospholipids in the fungal cell membrane altering cell wall permeability resulting in loss of essential intracellular elements

Half-life: 21-24 hours
Elimination: excreted in urine and feces

Dosage

Vaginal 2% cream

Adults:

Non-pregnant and pregnant in first trimester only:
insert  5 g intravaginally qhs for 3-6 days
