POLYMYXIN B + BACITRACIN

Antibacterial activity

Polymyxin B: effective against gram-negative (eg: P. aeruginosa)
Bacitracin: effective against a variety of gram-positive cocci and bacilli

Contraindication/Precaution

Hypersensitivity to polymyxin B or bacitracin or any component

Mechanism of Action

Polymyxin B:  behave as cationic, surface-active compounds that disrupt the permeability of both the outer and the cytoplasmic membranes of gram-negative bacteria.
Bacitracin: inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis

Metabolism: N/A
Half-life: 5 hours, changes with renal function
Elimination: excreted in urine

apply qd-qid

Ophthalmic: ointment

Children and adults:
apply 2 cm ribbon  OS/OD q3-8h
